We fund Claude Code seats for people the price currently excludes — and we pay attention to what they do with the leverage.
Most of what the world knows about tools like this comes from one narrow demographic: well-paid, English-speaking, productivity-driven. We suspect some of the most interesting uses of AI coding leverage will be invented by the people it currently prices out — differently placed, differently motivated. The seats are how we find out. We collect data on how they get used mainly to learn how people actually apply tools like this, and we write that up so that future educational and philanthropic programs (ours and other people's) can be built on it. The tools are still in their infancy, and most of what they could do for people has not been tried yet.
A fully funded month of Claude Code for builders anywhere in the world who can't currently afford it. 10 scholars per round. Apply.
A free month of Claude Code for university students and professors in Indonesia, Vietnam, the Philippines, Thailand, and Malaysia. 10 scholars per round. Apply.
Selection is a gate, not a contest: against a published rubric (AI-assisted, human-checked) we verify that the need is real and that the seat would actually get used — then a publicly seeded lottery decides among everyone qualified. We don't rank applications, because the uses we're most curious about can't be predicted from an essay. Rounds close on the 15th and the last day of every month through December 2026, and a quiet round simply admits everyone who qualifies. The rubric and the selection process are published in full.
Two friends — one in North America, one in Europe — who think covering seats like this does real good for very little money, and that whatever people do with them will be worth studying. It's an independent two-person project: the rubric and the selection process are public. Questions? Email hello@wildcardscholarship.org.
